I love the story and play style you've introduced into a wondrous series. Mardek is my favorite game I've ever found on the internet, and I'm never forgetting how wonderful it all is. You've given something wonderful, and I'm have utmost faith that if you aim to make a change, it's for the better, if not to keep it going on in general. Don't listen to the naysayers, they're the same kind of people that complain about Pokemon coming out with anything after generation 1. Simpletons don't take change well. I'm behind you 100%

Since posting my last comment I read that you've had brain surgery and that you are deeply depressed. That alters my perception completely. I withdraw my last comment and I apologise for it from the bottom of my heart.

I played the original Mardek with some detachment. There was always something lurking beneath the surface of the dialogue which creeped me out and now I can see exactly what that was. In the original Mardek, at least the artwork was sane and pleasant and well-drawn. The new artwork is incredibly ugly and seriously disturbing. The quality of the English has also plummeted. It's pretty obvious that you had help from other people for the initial chapters and now you're trying to go it alone. Bad idea.

I really wish this wasn't happening! I waited the longest time for Mardek 4 and then you come out and say this is gonna happen?

Get some common sense and give the fans what they want, not some trash that you want to make

Why not make them two separate series? you'd probably make more money this way.
You could also remaster the first 3 chapters and put them on steam

I'm going to be brutally honest and say that I don't think I will enjoy the reboot as much as the first three chapters. I simply love long plot/adventure driven rpgs with lots of character development and huge in depth worlds to explore. I do understand that since it is all made by like one person there's a very good argument to be made that Pseudolonewolf should do whatever the f- (s)he wants with the story, and it isn't our business, but at the same time I won't sugarcoat it and jump on a bandwagon of anticipating the new version. The fact is that a lot of the people that enjoyed mardek enjoyed it for certain reasons, and it became an established series. Doing a reboot and changing (almost) all of the elements that I was drawn to it by in the first place may be fine for many people, but it isn't for me, and neither for many people that like to see a story end before a new one begins. Imagine if George Lucas decided to direct the clone wars series right after episode 5 and didn't finish the original trilogy. Sure, the series may be good in it's own right, possibly even great, but the mere fact that it's existence means that the thing we really want (Star Wars VI for example) may never exist is too big a price to pay for me. Pseudo, love your work and will stand up for your autonomy and mental health and
, but that doesn't mean I will enjoy the fact that episode 4 may not come out. Furthermore, I can't justify playing a game I dislike just to keep you and your fans happy, but if this is really what you want to do (and I think that seems pretty clear) then I won't say another word on the subject ever again.

The reboot feels like an entirely different game. The thought of Mardek not continuing as it had makes it feel like it will remain unfinished, which leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I wouldn't recommend ditching what you've got here. I like the thought and implications of wrestling with personal/emotional demons, but Mardek and crew had to struggle with moral questions while fighting things that would physically rip them apart.
I could see this happening if they all had some collective dream, but it seems like a total disconnect from the first three chapters.
Hoping for chapter 4, and thank you for all your work.

I don't want to be as rude and/or raw as many other comments out there because i'll never do even 1/100th of the work you put into this series, but :
- Even if the combat is about love 'n stuff, they're just other word for elements right? Will there still be strenghts/weaknesses for each of them? Potayto, Potato, don't care as long as the good mechanics are there.
- The "animated" characters just look horrible, there's no way around that, you might have your own goals & reasons for doing so but you need to be aware that you do something well (old Mardek art) and that learning smth new will be slow and painful
- And about Mardek having a new skin colour and looking like he's on extasy, that's just wrong, just make a new character, that's not Mardek
Also while i will definitely give this a shot, please keep the "old" Mardek games available somewhere.
Thanks and best of luck.

Ditto to what czechboy posted.
While I think a non-violent combat system can work (The recently released Renowned Explorers: International Society proves that)..
It's a massively different style.. To the point it doesn't even feel like the same genre.
Due to that I don't feel that style of game works as a sequel to what are awesome, violent, classic turn based rpgs.
Give it a different name, name the characters differently, but maybe set it in the same universe and i think people will be a lot more receptive to it.
Releasing it as a sequel to me would feel like if SQEX released FFXV as a pure simulation driving game.. I mean yea the spin off final fantasies that aren't rpgs at all are sometimes fun, but for a main line sequel to be a totally different genre would really upset a lot of fans.
Anyways thanks for the first 3. Eagerly awaiting mardek 4, just hope it won't be this game. Waited 5 years, can wait another 5 for you to make it :

So I entered the site with my ''open-minded'' mode and BAM I got struck by thunder even though I was ready :/, this reboot is somthing else entirely, it's like not Mardek anymore .. It's your game and you call in the end and there's no turning you back now.

This new mardek is nothing more than trash.I look to the new characters and the only one thing I can see in their faces is "please let me die",oh yes, and the battle system, I think you're a retard... "battling with sentients" ridiculous. "Oh Sir Annihilator Do You Wanna a Kiss?" One curious thing, in the old, mardek, most of the thing were pixels but ectremally good, now your artwork dont look nothing more than simple games artwork, We loved the pixel art, because you were good on it,you makes pixels look incredible, now your artwork style I can see on many games. You're an retard thinking that this reboot will be good, well Im not shure If I can say that this is game. One more thing, thanks for ruining my childhood with this, I always imagined new chapters of mardek, belive you or not, I already dream about new chapters.

Secretly I was hoping that once all the chapters were completed, a final version with the single game combining all the chapters would be made and released as a premium game on a distribution platform like STEAM.
The new Mardek feels fundamentally both visually and mechanically different from the original Mardek games. The characters look cartoony and extremely stylized to take seriously, and I feel the new usage of emotions and spiritual enlightment as skills could undermine the original goal of the game. As you suggested, the game doesn't look dark and gritty. And I feel that is what made the original Mardek games, Mardek games. (Being something that pays homage to original RPGs while breaking the emotions and beliefs of those 'generic' heroes through dialogue and watching them change as they are exposed to different elements.
The new Mardek game is still a great idea, however. I just feel that it shouldn't be branded as a Mardek game, and I'd be much more willing to see the original Mardek series simply be abandoned at Chapter 3 than undergo a huge change that destroyed what made me think about the characters I played as. But even so, the Mardek storyline is woven into this new game, so the only thing I'd like is to have the classics still available. I'd like to play them again when I have time and show them to my friends as one of the flash games that I believe to have pioneered flash gaming.
Best of luck with the new reboot of Mardek.

I always saw the original Mardek as somewhat of an interactive storybook about Mardek growing up. Every chapter he was exposed to something different that I would make him ever so jaded. Chapter 1 exposed Mardek to the realization of how dangerous and scary the 'real world' was and what the duo would be getting into in order to achieve their dreams of becoming someone like Social Fox. Chapter 2 exposing them to real elements. How jading killing could be, how easily a family could be destroyed (Emela's) because of the dangers in the world, how two people on the 'same' side could still be so against each other (Mardek v. Verhrn), and how easily someone like Moric could commit unhuman crimes- reviving the dead in order to harass townsfolk. These scenarios could be considered generic, but what made this special was seeing how different the characters we played as became. Even in Chapter 3, Mardek shown grieving over Deugan. (I honestly haven't touched Chapter 3 yet.
I expected the story to progress with everyone changing their own beliefs and morals because of what they encountered. Mardek questions if he really does want to become Social Fox. Perhaps Emela gives up magic and turns to isolation in fear of killing another human being. Sharla questioning her 'career' path because of the danger of losing Donovan or herself. (I heard that Deugan is alive, so perhaps that he would question revealing his survival to Mardek or not in fear that it will destroy the determination his death may have given.
All with the story ending with everyone putting aside their differences to defeat some sort of final evil, dying in the progress and having the story 'loop' back to the intro scene of Chapter 1: some kids playing in the woods and dreaming of becoming the heroes they admired.

They Changed It, Now It Sucks.
Let me preface this by saying I'm fairly young, and that Mardek 1 is the most memorable game of my PC gaming childhood. I wasn't able to purchase many games when as I was a kid, so finding about flash games, and then discovering how fleshed out and wellmade Mardek 1 was mde me play it repeatedly for countless hours. When Mardek 2 was released, I dropped my GameCube controller immediately and I was glued to the computer for a solid two weeks playing through Mardek. (Mardek was my second RPG, first being Paper Mario: TTYD, so I wasn't very good with understanding how traditional RPGs worked.
So it's clearly obvious that I'm against a remake of Mardek. But I know it's going to happen anyways, so I'd like to request you keep the original Mardek 1-3 and re-label them as Classic Mardek, or something.
