I'd personally hold off on the continuation until I got in the same mental state than before. If you're going through depression, it may not be the ideal time to reboot an idea that occurred to you when you weren't.
It's just that the series hold my favorite flash games, and they have certain uniqueness to it that I can't quite put my finger on, so I'm afraid it could be lost upon this remake.
That said, I hope you can move on and find some meaning to your days. Good luck.

I'm not hugely interested in this new MARDEK, but I've been a big fan of yours since (bloody hell, I can't even remember) some time before MARDEK 2 came out. I want to wish you luck with this new game you're making, but also implore you to release the original plot of MARDEK, even if it is just skeleton frameworks or it. MARDEK has been such a big part of my life and even though I don't think this new game interests me, not knowing how MARDEK was originally supposed to finish would bother me immensely. So yeah, good luck and please consider sharing the original plot.

huge mardek fan as long as the story isn't changed too much it shouldn't be that big of a deal id just like some sort of conclusion at some pt

Having more MARDEK is more than enough to make me happy. And since your storytelling (in all your games) falls in under the definition of likeable, you could probably make Mardek a beetle, or a dandelion or something and still make a game well worth playing. (Though making Mardek a beetle is probably a bad idea).

I'm not quite sure about all the changes you'll make to something I loved playing. But it is your characters, your world, your game and your ideas and as such you have every right to do whatever you please with the materials. And besides, you have proven that you can make awesome games, and I trust you know best how to make even more awesome games.

Well, mardek is mardek, so I'm excited to play it, even though I'm overly disappointed in all of the changes being made. (Especially streamlining it)
You're a great game maker though, so even though you're not giving me quite what I'd prefer, I'm sure it'll still be wonderful.

I picked the excited option because your episodic, finite, "no XP" approach to RPGs is extremely refreshing! Often, I'd play Final Fantasy games and wish that I could just skip any grinding and battles to get to the next cutscene (since those are the best parts)! While I enjoy turn-based battles to some extent, my enjoyment usually diminishes during "epic", long, five-floored dungeons, since I find that the fun parts to the gameplay are boss fights, trying out new skills/characters, and seeing new enemies. With your concept of MARDEK, I seem to get the best of both: lots of story and constantly changing, refreshing gameplay.

When I'm exploring optional rooms or completing a dungeon 100%, I'd much rather be rewarded with a dreamstone or an extra cutscene instead of a weapon or item (which only helps you become stronger to complete more side-stuff to get more weapons to become more stronger, in a pointless cycle).

In short: Yes, I'm very excited about getting a plot-centred RPG.

Hopefully, you are going to read this, Pseudo, since I'd love to see some response to what I'm about to ask.

Since you have already stated that you have, to quote "outgrown the original plan in so many ways, working on a sequel would be soul-crushing", I can assume that the Mardek 4 you are going to release is going to be much, much different than just "original" Mardek 4 in a new setting.

If so, is it at all possible that you could release a summary of what would have happened in the story according to your original plan?
It wouldn't have to be detailed, but it would probably bring some closure to those people who are skeptical about Alora Fane.
I understand that you now might think of your old works as bad, and might be ashamed of them, but remember, that we are all here because we loved those works, and we probably still would. I understand that you hate some of your old fans that your games attracted, but don't forget that that was just a loud, annoying minority, and we all always tried to give you our love and support.
Most of us came here specifically for those great games you made.

Anyway, I ask you, please consider revealing to us the original storyline, maybe even putting it as some easter egg encyclopaedia entry for getting 100% completion, or something like that. It would at least calm down some of those angry complainers, that's for sure!

I am very excited with this game, I am a fan from a long, long time ago and I'm impressed with your great imaginative and creative skills, that are simply magnificent. I love how innovative you are with this game and I can't wait to see it finally complete.

And also, you should, from time to time, play games to grab more inspiration because (obviously) all the games are always inspired of other games. You are the best and keep up the good work! Nothing more to say.

I'm deeply fascinated by that reboot, with just one, single drawback. Not sure'bout those new character looks . Maybe it's just my "ah the good times, when story was most important, noone cared that your char is 10 pixels" side is saying it, or hours of playing with the old ones. But it's your game and with that kind of music and story, you can do whatever shiny, new graphics you want(still a fan).

At first, I was understandably anxious about the reboot, but the more I read about it, the more it makes sense to me. Also, I finally got around to replay the originals, and they really are showing their age.

I think that the Mardek reboot may actually be a good introduction to the Alora Fane universe for us.

Pseudo, whatever you may do, just do it.

Feedback exists to improve the object of said feedback, but at this point, I'm just eager for Mardek to continue in any form. If criticism is going to stop you, then to hell with it.

Personally, I don't think I've seen enough context in regard with your releases on the Alora Fane version of Mardek to make a complete judgment, but my judgment is irrelevant. So I just put down "I'm excited".

Get that ball rolling!

I chose that I am excited, because that seems the most relevant. "There are some changes/ideas I don't like, but I'm willing to give it a chance," is also partly true, though. I really like most of what you've talked about, but some of the changes in mechanics make me a little nervous! Mostly, I'm a little worried about the "no exp and finite currency" thing. I like my RPGs with some breathing room, personally, so if I'm more in the mood to spend a long time than to put in a lot of mental effort, I can grind a bit and things will get easy, even near the end. Obviously finite currency doesn't automatically preclude that, but I thought I'd voice my mild concern. And even there, I actually quite like the idea as long as it doesn't too severely limit how strong I can make my characters: there definitely is something very satisfying about fully ridding a place of monsters. Maybe there could be some sort of slow-ish but infinite, entirely optional way to get more currency? Again, though, most of the stuff sounds good to me, and I'm definitely excited for the game as you've described it so far.

Y'know what's fantastic about all of this? The fact that you're so INCREDIBLY eager to work on this new IP of Alora Fane! I've been lurking around your creative properties for awhile now and can't help but feel a deep sense of happiness whenever you are inspired by something. To hear you sound so motivated and excited is a blessing in it's own right. As someone who has purchased your OST's and gave donations to a truly worthy creator, I feel elevated whenever you put your mind towards a creation! What's especially wonderful is that... I think this might be the most confident and driven you have ever sounded on your websites. I am undoubtedly overjoyed at these latest developments of yours. Wow, haha. I certainly just gushed like a broken faucet. As for these changes to Mardek, it seems like this version will knock the old Mardek out of the park (Amazing considering the quality of the Mardek before this). While I'm sad that Verhn is no longer in the game (Really hoping for a guy like him, haha), the new designs for everyone else are fantastic! Anyways, the suspense for a brand new experience is gonna kill me, man! May this new found inspiration of yours be as endless as the horizon.

I liked mardek a lot but now it doesn't even look playable.

Don't misunderstand, I liked vulpin adventure, but it's not exactly fantastic, and I think it's simply shameful to make mardek into essentially the same style of game in terms of art. The character changes are also a little disappointing. This is just making me really sad. I agree with oni-san when she said that we want the old version of deliverance more.

I would prefer the original concept honestly. I'd be willing to play/pay for the heavily altered version just because I'm so desperate for MARDEK. I'm not a fan of the emotion based world/combat, the new art, or the limited party/plot. One more small point: the game should be done the way you envision it originally, not the way you think would be most equal or appeal to women the most.

I don't really like the changes. I'm happy with other games, but MARDEK is MARDEK and to change it would be a disrespect to what it already has been, in a manner of speaking.

    Exactly. Name this something different, in respect for what mardek was, and maybe end the real mardek story with a short #4 where you can visit the locked doors from mardek 3.
    As I have also already said : make gloria the main char and make her the world while practicing with her spell when she was young, then you can save the real mardek and play with your ideas.

    This has no relevance to anything and I don't see why you'd even call yourself a fan. But swell job at contributing nothing to this poll but bile, it certainly makes Pseudo seem better in comparison.
