Report Abuse yes. minecraft isn't meant to be realistic but it has a realistic atmosphere in it, and the sun/moon makes it more cool and add a little to the atmosphere.. just saying.

Report Abuse I think the round moon and round sun makes the game more realistic with the moon phases. and i hope full moon would make wherewolfs spawn as mobs or something. and to make the game scary and harder. it's 50/50 on the votes so i seriosly hope Notch add a button to change from square to round or rewerse!!!! 
The sun isn't a square!! the minecraft world isn't a big SQUARE! so why would the sun be a big square

They could add different things to happen on different moon phases. Well they could do that with the square moon but, it wouldn't look as good.
