Circles are easier to do phases with. Plus, just because its a circle in minecraft, it doesn't mean the end of the world. Maybe an option? You know that special sight when you look up at night and see the magical sky? I think a round moon and sun would give them that awe in a world filled with blocks. I use painterly so I don't want to gouge my eyes out whenever I look at cobblestone. Notch can make them whatever damn shape he likes.
