a circle-ish shape made out of squares would be the most logical I think. The same pixelated look everything else has when you look at it from afar.

As you see it's not completely round but it has the blocky appeal in its pixelated texture
just like the textures of eggs or ender pearls, or eyes of ender.

One of the founding principles of the game is that everything is made up of cubes and squares. Everything has always been square. Why would the moon be round? It doesn't make sense given the context and history of the game. Squaaare.

    Pickaxes and all tools arent square. They are made of squares like the circle moon model.

Square. Everything else in Minecraft is square, so the sun and moon should be too. It wouldn't look right if they were round.

If round is chosen we can make a texturepack with square moon phases.

If square is chosen we DON'T have any phases!

I think it should be round. Think people, a round sun and moon could just be the stepping stone to CORNER BLOCKS, or other round-edged blocks. Its evolution!
