I always thought that one of the enduring symbols of Minecraft was its square sun/moon. To make it otherwise seems like heresy. Moon phases can still exist with a square moon, and I believe it would be equally, if not more so, interesting to have each phase be in a rectangular fashion. To make the sun/moon round would mean to change the shapes of the celestial bodies which are so dominantly featured in the communities' great fan art, t-shirts, etc. Posted by EMDude in reply to Heresy? Report Abuse I don't question Notch's intentions, but realize that Minecraft has been mostly influenced by the ideas that we contribute to it as a play-testing community from Survival Test to Beta. I think that with Notch taking cues from us and others in the Minecraft community, even a say from one person deserves to be heard.
By the way, if changing an icon wasn't heresy to others, including myself, we wouldn't be having this discussion, or this poll.

But it was split into two because they couldn't agree on the shape of the moon Posted by Kataklistika October 14, 2011 at 12:09 am. Report Abuse A square moon can still have phases.... I'd like to see it remain square just because it would keep the whole square theme in place. The new round one looks kinda funny but it's not terrible. xD Posted by SQUARE! With moon phases, we can expect unique things from each night! It'll be amazing, compared to boring simple square un-phase-able moon-lit nights.
