I would like an in-game option that allows switching, or a craft-able item/block that when placed changes them. either is cool

It still has the blocky appeal in its pixelated texture, just like the textures of eggs, ender pearls, or eyes of ender.
Square moon phases look ridiculous.

Notch, why not make it simply an option? But I'm backing up my old environment textures folder, just in case. My sun will never change.

Since my texture pack (like many others) has a round moon, it doesn't mater what it looks like in vanilla, since you can always change it. $5 says there will be a texture pack released within 1 hour of 1.9 official launch that does nothing but make the sun and moon into squares again

I like the effect that the square moon and sun have on minecraft. It makes the game feel a little more, blocky, which is what the gam should feel like. I can't imagine looking up to the sky at night and seeing some glowing figures that has no sides, edges or vertices!
