take a copy of the old moon and sun picture now so you can change it in the .jar when 1.9 comes out!

Like the moon/sun would be made out of ONE square... c'mon. Mine it and it's pitch black. I think it should be roundly-squarish, you know like everything else (made out of cubes)

the "round" makes more sense. Yes the world is made of blocks, but at a distance it takes shape, and so should the sun and moon.

round in minecraft doesn't mean it will be a circle... it means the corners will be less pronounced

The moon phases will look terrible on a square moon! Imagine, just a line in the sky when the moon is 1/4.
