As you see it's not completely round but it has the blocky appeal in its pixelated texture
just like the textures of eggs or ender pearls, or eyes of ender.

Personally, I say square. Just because there are no spheres/circles/anything round in Minecraft, and it's been like that since, well, forever... I've played mc since almost the beginning..... And to make the sun round? The horror! Haha(:
So... Just grab a texture pack if you want the sun to be circular?
