I think square is iffy, but i think round is the way to go. Well, i mean i don't think square is crap, but a blocky circle is awesome!

The Minecraft world has evenly-distributed gravity everywhere you go. Cube celestial bodies wouldn't account for this. What's next? The sun and moon have square-shaped orbits around the world? There's a ton of round shapes in the game already, (Hell, even the sun and moon on the clock face are round) this isn't destroying any kind of existing style. It's updating one component of the game to match the rest of the world. Besides, square moon phases would look like shit.

if the sun appears equal distance all day then it must have a circular (not square orbit)... meaning it must also be round to give off the 1.21 jigawatts required to keep zombies at bay. QED Round Sun!

So how does one make a (good looking) crescent moon out of a square, with only 8 pixels to work with?

Plus, who uses default textures anyway? Make the moon into what ever shape you want...
