      Eggs aren't square.
      Enderpearls aren't square.

      In fact, lots of things aren't square. The sun and moon should be round anyways because they are far away, and made up of lots of small blocks.

Solution. Make your own texture pack with a square/round moon.

    Too long...I care way to much. But I love the aesthetics of minecraft and would love it to look more realistic.

Since texture packs will allow you to pick whether you want it round or square, the only thing that really matters is whether moon phases will be able to be round or square. Hopefully the way moon phases will be implemented will also allow you to change them via texture packs to round/square as you desire.

Round, gives the impression that not everything in the universe of Minecraft is blocky, just the current world.

I have been fine with what you've added so far, and in fact have been hoping for it. But if you make the sun and moon round, you break ANOTHER long lasting minecraft tradition. This will not stand.

The common mistake is not realizing that the moon is still square-ish....IT'S NOT ROUND! it's just less square...oh no, it's not a giant ass block in the sky!! The ignorance...
